‘Ride With Me’ - Libby Bateman to take on one-day rail challenge across Cumbria
Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of Cumbria, Libby Bateman, will take on a challenge to travel the length and breadth of Cumbria by train on Saturday 4th July.
The one-day campaign journey, themed “One Day. One County. One Conversation.”, will see Libby travel by rail across Cumbria - meeting residents, listening to communities, and bringing together organisations and stakeholders who care about the future of the county.
The journey is intended to spark conversations around:
- Connectivity and transport
- Skills, education and training
- Rural and coastal communities
- Sustainable travel
- Economic opportunity
- Tourism, environment and access
Residents, community groups, businesses, local organisations and stakeholders are invited to join Libby for part of the route - whether travelling onboard, meeting at a station stop, or taking part in one of the short public conversations planned throughout the day.
Libby said: “Cumbria is a huge and diverse county, and too often communities can feel disconnected from the decisions being made about their future. This journey is about listening - from rural villages to coastal towns, from commuters and students to local businesses and community groups.
“Good transport links are not just about getting from A to B. They shape access to work, education, healthcare, tourism and opportunity. I want to hear directly from people across Cumbria about what is working, what is not, and what needs to change.
“By spending one day crossing the county by rail, I hope we can start one county-wide conversation about how we build a better-connected, more ambitious and more sustainable Cumbria.”
