Libby Bateman launches petition against Stagecoach cuts to Kendal bus services
This week, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of Cumbria Libby Bateman has started a public petition, calling for Stagecoach to drop their plans to reduce bus services in Kendal and Burneside.
Stagecoach’s plans include ending the 445 and 46 services alongside reducing timetables for the 43, 44 and 45 bus routes.
The 44 route (Kendal to Hallgarth) will go from running twice an hour during the day to around once an hour on Mondays to Fridays with no bus before 8am on a Saturday.
The 43 route (Kendal to Morrisons) and 45 route (Kendal to Burneside) will both be reduced from eight services a day to just five on Mondays to Fridays.
Libby’s petition can be signed at www.libbyforcumbria.uk/campaigns/kendalbus
Libby said: “As someone who helped to set up a community bus charity in Cumbria, I know just how important these services are – especially for older and vulnerable people.
“At a time when we're trying to reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion, we need to be investing in more bus services - not cutting them.
“We really need to show Stagecoach just how vital these bus services are for people in Kendal and Burneside so please sign the petition today and share it with your friends and family.”
